Again this year, Sonic is teaming up with Donorschoose.org to help students (and teachers) across the country. The campaign is called Limeades for Learning. Voting begins August 29th! Each week during the month of September, Sonic will fund projects with the most votes up to $100,000 a week. All we have to do is vote! For those of you who are not familiar with Donorschoose.org, it is a non-profit website where teachers can post projects for supplies, technology, resources, etc. and donors (regular people who just want to help) across the country donate to the project. I personally have had 31 projects funded through Donorschoose.org by donors across the country who felt our students needed the resources. These people were so generous and most of them complete strangers. They were from Colorado, New York, South Carolina, Georgia, and of course, awesome people in Tuttle who know I always have a project posted for something. This is an AWESOME organization and it has been very generous to our students in the past (I would guess that 80% of the CSI resources, equipment, and supplies have been received through Donorschoose projects). The students and I write Thank You letters to the donors to let them know how much we do appreciate their support by funding a projects. In the last two years, Sonic has funded over 1.3 million dollars to classroom projects on Donorschoose. Last year, my students voted daily using student email accounts I have set up. Not only were we voting for our projects, but other Tuttle teacher projects and a few outside of our district. Over the course of the 5 weeks, we were able to help fund over 17 projects just by voting every day. It was so rewarding to watch the kid’s enthusiasm each day checking how the projects were stacking up against all the others (and not just ours, but all of the projects for which we were voting). On Fridays, they would ask all day if I had heard anything, and then were so excited to learn which projects had been funded. Donorschoose has a challenge going right now to help over 260 Joplin schools devastated by tornadoes. I want to try and help fund several of their projects through Limeades for Learning. There are new ways to vote this year! First, you can vote once daily from any/every email address you have. If you don't feel like you have the time to vote every day or can remember to do so, you can let us vote for you by simply letting me know to use your address(es). After your first vote, you will need to go verify your email address. After that, it is a matter of typing in your email address and click on vote each day. Second, with any purchase at Sonic, you will receive TWO codes. I don't know if they are on the cups or sacks, but be sure to look for them. You can either use the codes to vote yourself or send the codes to school. Third, if you vote online 10 times, you'll receive TWO votes via email! Sonic is really making a statement this year because if there are over 1.5 million total votes at the end of the campaign, Sonic will release another $100, 000 for another week of voting! I have included a link below to the Limeades for Learning site to give you some more information about it and Donorschoose. http://limeadesforlearning.com/pages/howItWorks Link to Limeades for Learning http://limeadesforlearning.com/pages/search Link to Search for Tuttle Projects Click on the Keyword tab and then type in our zip code (73089). This will take you right to the Tuttle projects. As always, we appreciate everything you do for our kids, so vote, vote, vote!
